### Cpl. Sidney Talmud

38th Signal Construction Battalion

In the middle of March 1945, Corporal Sidney Talmud was approached by Lieutenant Shubow, the battalion’s Jewish chaplain. He planned to hold Passover services and, since Sidney was the only Jewish cook in the battalion, asked him to look after the food.

### Tech. Sgt. Elden R. “Dan” Burdin

507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division

With only four practice jumps behind him, Dan Burdin dropped into the darkness near Sainte-Mère-Église on the night of 5 to 6 June 1944, a .30 calibre machine gun strapped to his gear.

### Pvt. John Carl Strother Jr.

Company K, 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division

The 39th Infantry Regiment landed at Utah Beach on 10 June 1944, four days after D-Day. Within days the 9th Division was fighting across the Cotentin peninsula to cut it off and take Cherbourg.

### Lt. Camille M. Lelong

BCRA, Jedburgh Team Bruce

The Jedburghs were small teams of British SOE, American OSS and Free French BCRA officers, parachuted in uniform behind German lines in 1944 to arm and lead the Resistance in coordination with Allied headquarters. About 100 teams were dropped into France, Belgium and the Netherlands between June and December 1944.
